WHAT WE DO
Housing
We support people who have become unhoused to address their challenges, find housing, and to help support them in successfully remaining housed.
Housing affordability is
no longer just a low-income wage earner issue.
Our zip codes - where we live – shouldn’t determine our success in life. That’s why we need to make sure that all of our Westchester communities have the critical resources they need, like good homes that people can afford.
People across a much wider socio-economic spectrum are increasingly facing the same problem – rents and mortgages are increasing at rates that outpace growth in income and earnings. The pandemic has illuminated the depth of this issue and how a large portion of our community is on the verge of being evicted.
LUW identifies safe, stable and affordable housing options for homeless individuals living in shelters or on the streets and helps them transition into independent living. Hundreds of formerly homeless clients are successfully living in independent housing. LUW also operates 250 supportive housing units through Westchester County, NY for individuals who may need longer-term financial or case management support.
Stable housing is the foundation on which all other individual and family success is built. Where we live has a cascading effect on a host of positive outcomes from educational attainment and future workforce participation to better health outcomes including access to nutritious food and health care. This foundation is further strengthened by social relationships, community resources, and opportunities to thrive.
We have two housing programs:
Supportive Housing
Our Supportive Housing team works with individuals who may need longer-term financial or case management support to maintain their housing.
